Selene Schroeder was a pioneer.  In 1983 she purchased an auto garage on South Lamar Boulevard and converted it to a small interior design firm that offered a variety of services including floor coverings and installations.  She was ahead of her time.  Breaking into a male dominated industry and in an area of Austin that was not held in high esteem.

Schroeder Carpet is an Austin original and is the oldest family owned and operated flooring store here.  We have maintained a reputation that has allowed us to rely mostly on referrals as opposed to advertising.  Due to Selene’s vision, we are right in the middle of Austin’s soul and as such we reflect the funky and classic cool of SOLA.

Our name does not indicate it but we do specialize in hardwood flooring.  We offer the most current looks along with quality and variety.  Trending now is European oak, wide planks, and long board lengths.  So not only do we have seven- to 10-inch-wide European oaks, we also have other species, widths and patterns like herringbone and chevron.
